The Library has partnered with the Midwest Writing Center to present a three-part program series on publishing. Each session will feature a panel of authors and publishers, all prepared to discuss the different paths writers can take to begin their publishing careers.
MARCH 6: “Independent & Submission-based Publication” with Emily Kingery and Misty Urban
APRIL 3: “Self-Publication” with Melissa Conway and Tom McKay
MAY 1: “Traditional & Agent-based Publication” with Jason Platt and John Peragine
This program is intended for adults. Registration is encouraged but not required.
Presenter Bios:
Melissa Conway is a lover of landlocked states, gas station slushies, and the drive back home. Melissa’s work has been published in “Roads We’ve Taken” from Pearl City Press, “Sundog” from Fruit Salad Co, and more. You can find Melissa playing for the Quad City Rollers or out hiking with their dogs.
Tom McKay has been writing fiction for more than two decades. The Midwest Writing center published his recent novel, The Old Guard. He is also the author of the novels West Fork (East Hall Press, 2014) and Another Life (918studio Press, 2016). His short stories have appeared in Vermont Ink, the Wapsipinicon Almanac, Downstate Story, the Out Loud Anthology, HyperText Literary Magazine, and So It Goes, the literary journal of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library. He formerly worked as an historian and museum consultant.
