MWC offers the YEW Summer Camp for students in grades K-8. Modeled after the high school program, the YEW Summer Camp consists of close instruction in different forms of writing and culminates in a public reading of the students’ work.

The instructors for each age group are staff members and interns from our YEW Summer Internship Program. Participants will receive 10 hours of immersion in the literary arts to enhance, improve and diversify their writing skills. Full scholarships will be available and granted to those with financial need. Please see the application below:

YEW Camp 2021_SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The 2021 YEW Summer Camp will take place virtually July 26-30. If policies at the Rock Island Public Library change as Illinois reopens, we hope to move the camp to in-person meetings at the Rock Island Public Library, 401 19th St., Rock Island, IL. We will keep registrants updated as the situation changes.

Times for each age group are as follows:

Grades K-2:   9:30am – 11:30am CST
Grades 3-5:   12:00pm – 2pm CST
Grades 6-8:   2:30pm – 4:30pm CST

The Family and Friends performance for each age group will be Friday, July 30, during the last hour of the day  (Grades K-2: 7/30 at 10:30am CST, Grades 3-5: 7/30 at 1pm CST, Grades 6-8: 7/30 at 3:30pm CST).

Cost for the week-long day camp is $100, which also includes a one-year MWC student membership, and a copy a MWC Press book.  Scholarships are available for those with financial need–see the application below.
