After twenty-plus years, the David R. Collins Writers’ Conference (formerly known as the Mississippi Valley Writers’ Conference) will return to the campus of Augustana College this summer, June 22-24. Featuring our stellar Conference Faculty (Kali White VanBaale, Keith Pilapil Lesmeister, Jesus “Chuy” Renteria, and Rebecca Wee) leading three-day workshops, participating in a Community Conversation keynote event, and holding a public reading. We’ll also be hosting community book fair on Saturday, 6/24 for local/regional authors, publishers, booksellers, and more.

Iron Pen 2023 – Registration is open for the 15th annual Iron Pen Contest!
The fastest writing contest in the Midwest is back and taking registrations now!
The Midwest Writing Center is taking registrations for its 15th annual Iron Pen Contest. MWC will supply a prompt to all contestants at 5 p.m. on Friday, February 24 and contestants have 24 hours (entries are due Saturday, February 25 by 5 p.m.) to write and submit their best fiction, non-fiction, and/or poetry pieces. Writers are welcome to enter into as many categories as they like with a paid registration for each entry.

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in Iron Pen 2022. We received many terrific entries from writers across a record 16 states, and our judges had difficult decisions to make in their evaluations with such strong and various work in each category. Without any further ado, here are the winners of the 2022 Iron Pen Contest, by category:
