What: Poetry Workshop – “Who Is Reena Spaulings?: The Invented Self in Contemporary Poetry” led by Anaïs Duplan

MWC is thrilled to offer this unique poetry workshop opportunity presented by the brilliant Anaïs Duplan. Here’s a complete description:
“Reena Spaulings is a twenty-something year old woman working as a museum guard in New York City. The novel, Reena Spaulings, follows Reena’s exploits as she is “discovered” in New York and becomes a model. Nonetheless, much more of the cult of praise surrounding Reena Spaulings revolves around the way it was conceived – namely, that it was collectively authored by 150+ anonymous participants, though the novel itself is attributed to the artist+fashion collective, Bernadette Corporation. Taking cues and excerpts from Reena Spaulings, we will ask questions about voice, authorship, reliability, and identity in contemporary poetry. We will examine poems by Myung Mi Kim, Wendy Xu, Alina Gregorian, Fred Moten, and others.”
Thanks to the support of the Riverboat Development Authority, MWC is able to offer this workshop free to college/graduate students. Registration for non-students is $15 for MWC members, $25 for non-members.
