Express N Flow Youth Writing Workshops
Midwest Writing Center (MWC) will be hosting a new writing workshop for young writers in the Quad Cities, ages 10-18. The workshop is called “Express N Flow” and will be led by Trameka Woods, a FFT Therapist, with other visiting instructors. Here’s a detailed description:
Express N Flow Workshop “Where we rhyme what comes to mind!”
Express N Flow is a free workshop which encourages children ages 10-18 to utilize writing as a way of relieving stress and having a voice. At this workshop, students will develop spoken word skills instead of resulting to negative alternatives and bad choices. Students will learn and use basic writing skills and concepts like metaphors, similes, analogies, etc. Express N Flow is a beginning workshop so all are welcome: those who have a writing background and those who don’t.
Express N Flow will meet at the Midwest Writing Center (ground floor of the Downtown Rock Island Public Library) from 11:00 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month (March 23, April 27, and May 25) at the Midwest Writing Center. The first hour of the workshop, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., will be for ages 10-14, and the second hour, from 12:00 p.m. – 1 p.m., will be for ages 15-18. Participants are welcome to stay throughout the whole workshop and free write while the other age group is getting their lesson. This workshop is free and open to students ages 10-18 throughout the Quad Cities.
This workshop series is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Illinois Arts Council Agency.

Our hope is to create a nurturing community of writers who believe that writing is perhaps the most important thing in the world, and who inspire one another to publish and to grow in their craft.

The aim is to provide a dynamic space for writers to receive feedback, but we’re also looking into providing writing time for those who attend as well as trying some prompts and exercises. Those interested are not obligated to attend every week, but of course, the more they show up, the more they’ll get out of it. The group takes place in the QC complex (second floor of the building with the library in it).
