Award-Winning Writers Anne Pierson Wiese and Ben Miller Appear at 2 Events on 7/27

The Midwest Writing Center will host two events featuring award-winning writers Anne Pierson Wiese and ben miller on Thursday, July 27. The first will be a Community Conversation Brown Bag event at the Rock Island Public Library Downtown Branch.The second event will be a special SPECTRA Reading Series event featuring Wiese, Miller, Great River Writers Retreat winner Dee Robb, and a Young Emerging Writers Showcase.

Register Today for the David R. Collins Writers’ Conference – June 22-24 at Augustana College

After twenty-plus years, the David R. Collins Writers’ Conference (formerly known as the Mississippi Valley Writers’ Conference) will return to the campus of Augustana College this summer, June 22-24. Featuring our stellar Conference Faculty (Kali White VanBaale, Keith Pilapil Lesmeister, Jesus “Chuy” Renteria, and Rebecca Wee) leading three-day workshops, participating in a Community Conversation keynote event, and holding a public reading. We’ll also be hosting community book fair on Saturday, 6/24 for local/regional authors, publishers, booksellers, and more.

TO FEEL THE WORLD AS A POEM: YOUTH POETRY WORKSHOPS – Sat. 4/29 at the Rock Island Public Library

MWC is partnering with Illinois Humanities to present free poetry workshops for K-12 students on Saturday, April 29 at the Rock Island Public Library.

These workshops will be divided into two age groups: grades K-6 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and grades 7-12 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. They will be hosted at the Midwest Writing Center by Executive Director Ryan Collins. Food and drinks will be provided.

This event is free and open to students in grades K through 12, but space is limited.
