By definition Flash Fiction is a story of 1,000 words or less, but what makes for a great piece of flash? In this two-hour class, we’ll study examples from modern masters of the short form, discover the “Elements of Flashy Flash Fiction,” and write compelling stories of our own. Packed with tips, techniques, and prompts, this class will help writers of all levels create short fiction that shines.
Instructor Bio:
Audra Kerr Brown lives with her husband and two children at the end of a dirt road near Wapello, Iowa. Her work has appeared in the Best Small Fictions (2018, 2021), Wigleaf’s Top 50 (Very) Short Fictions list, X-R-A-Y, Milk Candy Review, Flashback Fiction, People Holding, Outlook Springs, and more. She is a past winner of the South Carolina Fiction Project and her flash fiction has been nominated for the Best MicroFiction and Best of the Net. She is co-founder of The Flashtronauts! YouTube channel and is currently a fiction reader for New Flash Fiction Review. Her flash chapbook is forthcoming with Harbor Editions, spring 2022.
